No Pain, All Gain! The phrase "No Pain, No Gain" has been a long-standing mantra, often associated with the idea that pushing through discomfort and pain is necessary to work out and achieve significant progress. At the time I was introduced to weightlifting No Pain No Gain was already engrained in my mind all I knew was that getting stronger or gaining muscle the pain included was just part of it and powered through it. As a skinny teenager, anyone I was inspired by who was strong and muscular did the same not realizing some of that pain is unnecessary and may be causing damage to your joints and tendons, including the risks of short and long-term injuries. Overall other than strait barbells, there weren’t many options to lift weights with that would reduce the risks of injury and/or unnecessary pain and discomfort.
